Can an expense be reimbursed without a receipt?
An exceptional reimbursement is possible if the company can establish that the expense occurred and was for business. First request a duplicate from the supplier. Otherwise retain payment evidence and a written explanation; these do not automatically replace an invoice required for tax deduction or VAT recovery.
Can a bank statement replace an invoice or receipt?
No. A bank statement is not a substitute for an itemised invoice. It proves that an amount was paid, but not what was bought or the VAT charged. Use it as supporting payment evidence and ask the supplier for a copy of the invoice or receipt.
Can a meal without a receipt be reimbursed?
For actual-cost reimbursement, ask the restaurant for a duplicate. If unavailable, submit payment evidence with the date, place, purpose and attendees so the company can decide on exceptional repayment and accounting treatment. A meal allowance instead requires evidence that its qualifying conditions were met.
Is a card slip enough for a restaurant expense?
No. A card slip shows payment but does not itemise the meal or provide the invoice’s tax details. Request a restaurant receipt or invoice. Keep the card slip as additional evidence where you need to establish who paid.
